The problems and deficits of 19th Century thought were the symptoms of a spiritual malaise truly revealed by Albert Schweitzer in his analysis of 19th century theology and in particular the theological inquiry into the the life and nature of Jesus Christ. Rudolf Steiner and Albert Schweitzer shared the same idea of the necessity and importance of the renewal of culture. But despite their longstanding friendship, Albert Schweitzer wasn’t able to follow Rudolf Steiner into spiritual science and a new way of thinking.
