Bach, Handel and the Mystery of Incarnation:

An Advent Contemplation
In 1685 Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frederic Handel appeared like twin stars in the musical firmament. They brought to culmination musically the two great mystery streams of human spiritual evolution, effecting a Copernican revolution in music. While acting as midwives to the birth of Western Music, they also pointed to the Mystery of Golgotha and expressed revealing aspects of the Christ Mystery in Messiah, The St. Matthew Passion and other works. This evening, including musical  illustrations from community musicians, is offered in the spirit of the Advent season.

Gayle Davis worked over thirty years at Rudolf Steiner College, where she retired as President. She directed the college choir and taught courses in Anthroposophy, Christology and the History of Consciousness through Music. She served on the Council of the Anthroposophical Society in America, the Teacher Education Committee of The Association for Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and was a founding member of the Council of Anthroposophical Organizations (CAO). She currently chairs the Coordinating Committee of the Faust Branch and is a member of the Council of the Literary Arts and Humanities Section of the School for Spiritual Science.
